Wednesday, March 2, 2005 - The Nassau West Transportation Workers' Union (NWTWU Local No. 7) has voted to remove all non-essential NWTWU property to be removed from a trucking company in the Tucson area that employs Union members. The reasoning for this measure was not made public.
The Union has been present in Tucson since October of 2003, when Nassau West Sheriff Kelly Bartram became the terminal manager of the company's Tucson terminal. In the time since, there have been a few skirmishes that have created tension between the Union and the company.
According to the Union, the company has been neglecting the Tucson terminal and its employees for too long. A Union spokesperson, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, said that the entire Tucson fleet (three vehicles) is in desperate need of attention, and further stated that some of the employees at the terminal need immediate pay increases.
Although the Sheriff was not mentioned by name, it is suspected that the Union believes that Bartram, among others, deserves a raise. Another point of discontent for the Union is the fact that the company offers no benefits (other than employment itself).
