Wednesday, May 25, 2005 - The Spread Eagle Saloon, inside the kbartram.com Arena, has announced that it will be officially open "for business" on Saturday, June 11, 2005, ahead of Nassau West Vice President Michael O'Brien's birthday on Sunday the 12th.
The Spread Eagle Saloon, and kbartram.com Arena, will host the Vice President's birthday celebration over that weekend. According to President Kelly K. Bartram, the VP's entourage will also visit nearby Tombstone on Saturday night to "ring in his birthday right."
This past Saturday Nassau West Navy First Fleet Admiral Mike Gearhart visited the Capitol, and while there, he lent a helping hand in bar construction. He arrived at the Capitol at about 8 o'clock in the morning and departed around 9 PM. President Bartram, who also assisted in the project, was ecstatic with the amount of work done.
"We started out with a flexible agenda and really got a lot accomplished. The only thing that I regret not getting done was the texturing of the partition wall, that will be a huge task, and one I'm not at all familiar with. But we finished the back bar pedestals and the entire framework for the front bar," said a giddy President.
Last night the Capitol maintenance crew worked well into the night, wrapping it up just before 4 AM. "We were certainly burning the midnight oil last night. We started to run out of steam and had to burn an entire case of 2 o'clock oil!" said Bartram at the Capitol this morning.
The list of items completed during the late shift include installing tops for the back bar and front bar, installing the front wood to the front bar, installing a "fancy" floor vent, and the installation of some of the paneling and trim pieces around the bar room.
This weekend the fun will continue. The partition wall that was built to separate the closet area from the rest of the bar room was taped and sealed with joint compound this past weekend, and will be textured and painted this weekend.
The Nassau West Fire Department inspected the back bar area over the weekend and gave approval to the emergency escape route planned by the Spread Eagle. In the event of fire, the middle section of the back bar can be quickly and easily removed to provide access to a large window to escape through.
The saloon will be re-evaluated periodically throughout the construction process to ensure that the emergency exit remains fully operational at all times. The Department has not yet established the maximum occupancy for the Spread Eagle, but that's not likely to be an issue.
