Wednesday, June 1, 2005 - A bad day for me, and a good season for YOUR Phoenix Suns both came to a screeching halt this evening, and met mixed emotions at their respective conclusions.
"This day has been a bitch from hell!" stated kbartram this evening upon returning home from a ridiculously difficult day at work, his second such in as many days. "This shit better quit pretty soon before I do. I've had just about enough of this!" he continued.
The fact that his favorite NBA team, the Phoenix Suns, was sent home by the San Antonio Spurs didn't help one bit. As a result of the Suns' loss in the NBA Western Conference Finals, the Spurs will advance to the 2005 NBA Finals and play the winner of the Eastern Finals, either the Miami Heat or the Detroit Pistons.
kbartram says that he is throwing his support behind the Spurs now, as they are the flag bearer of the Western Conference. He also says it makes losing less painful if you lose to the eventual champions, which he thinks the Spurs will be.
"The Suns went from not making the playoffs last year, also with one of the worst records last year, to having the best regular season record this year and advancing to the Western Finals. There's no shame in that. Toward the end, they were plagued with injuries, foul trouble, and poor offense, and you just can't play the Spurs in this condition," he said.
kbartram rambled further, "I said at the beginning of the playoffs that I thought the Suns would advance as far as the Spurs. I did not believe they could or would beat the Spurs. I was surprised that the series didn't go a bit further than the five games it took for San Antonio to collect the necessary four wins."
At work, which lasted for more than twelve hours, everything that could go wrong did go wrong. At the end of the day, however, everything did get done. This included kbartram going to the airport, picking up five boxes of what turned out to be plastic cups and bowls, and delivering them in his car on his own time about thirty miles north of Tucson.
The delivery site, a resort in Saddlebrooke, took nearly an hour to get to. He quickly made the delivery, and returned home to Benson. The delivery was signed off at 9:41, and at 10:41 he was passing under Marsh Station Road, about five miles from Benson. He apparently engaged in a little speeding. Just before 11 PM, he arrived home.
Unexpectedly, kbartram was in a rather pleasant mood when he arrived. When asked why he wasn't in a more irritated mood, he said, "because I have a date - with a real, live human female - a hot fiery redhead! I just found out last night that a request I made years ago for a date with a female friend from Mesa will finally happen."
The female friend he is referring to is Nassau West Seattle Ambassador Andrea Brown, soon to be returning to Andrea Longoria. The Nassau West Navy has ships of both names in the fleet. Apparently Andrea has separated from her husband, Bill Brown, and the two will be divorcing in the near future.
kbartram was completely unaware of this turn of events until last night when he received a call from Andrea with the news. The couple will still be friends and are both totally committed to the well-being of their two children, Matthew and Mary.
In July (2-10), kbartram will be visiting the Seattle area, and will also be seeing Andrea. While these plans were made before the separation occurred about two months ago, the "date" had not been scheduled. Last night, Andrea reminded kbartram that he had requested a date with her if she should find herself "available" again. She notified kbartram that she has accepted his offer.
kbartram said, "when she asked me if I remembered asking her for a date, I said that I did not. She accepted anyway, and then I said, 'well, I hope I take you someplace nice.' This is a once in a lifetime opportunity, so I hope I don't mess it up. I think it will be OK, I've known her for a long time, so I don't think it will be a problem. It will be nice to finally get to take her on a 'date.'"
