Thursday, August 18, 2005 - What a strange revelation ... the silly Libs actually do care about issues of this country. Who would've thought? What a vast change! Recently two states that border Mexico have had their governors announcing a "State of Emergency" regarding the border situation.
This is vastly different to the usual Democrat rhetoric. As a general rule, Democrats love everybody, and have the attitude of what's mine is yours. In this case, one could say, mi casa es su casa (my house is your house). However, the governors of Arizona and New Mexico, apparently, have had a change of heart.
Governor Bill Richardson (D-NM) has declared a "State of Emergency" in New Mexico as a result of increasing illegal immigrant smuggling, drug trafficking, cattle theft, destruction of private property, etc. Evidently, Richardson up to this point has been unaware of the problem.
His state will be spending a lot of money trying to rectify the turmoil along their southern border with Mexico. Richardson cited a federal agent's murder as one of the reasons for the new declaration. Federal agents are regularly targeted by criminals from south of the border. What makes this one particular incident so important?
Well, as you may have guessed, Mr. Richardson is expected to announce his candidacy in the 2008 Presidential Election, representing the Dems, of course. But why would he pander to the right (Republicans)? Because many representatives of the Republican Party are doing nothing to protect our borders.
Shortly after Richardson's epiphany, Governor Janet Napolitano (D-AZ) realized the same problems were occurring in her state. Unbelievable! I'm glad she saw what was going on, because the Minuteman Project, and citizens alike, apparently were not able to figure it out for themselves.
So, in closing, while border protection policies are important to most Americans, at least the ones on the southern border of our great country, please don't be fooled by these Dems changing their appearance ahead of election time. Look at their past voting records and statements.
Napolitano in particular seems to be the bigger hypocrite. Arizona passed Proposition 200, which required, among other things, that all people wanting to vote must produce identification and proof of citizenship. Prop 200 also mandates that state tax revenues will not be used to better the lives of illegal immigrants. The measure passed overwhelmingly.
For some reason unknown to me, Ms., not Miss or Mrs. (definitely not Mrs.), Napolitano tried to block the enactment of Prop 200, holding it up in court and delaying its installation into the law books for several months. Eventually, she lost her battle against the will of the people, and the measure was finally initiated.
It seems very strange after all the disdain for Prop 200 that the good Governor of the State of Arizona should decide that now is the time to bolster our border protection. Peculiar ... very peculiar.
