Duel in the Desert - Part III

Tombstone Mayor Andree DeJournett (right) with Tombstone City Council Ward 2 Councilman Bill Barlow (left) outside the Dragoon Saloon, 2004.

Tuesday, November 8, 2005 - It seems like just about a year ago I was writing this very same type of article, an article about a man whose (in my opinion) conceit and dirty network of "good ol' boys" was trying to derail the will of the good people of the City of Tombstone.

Oh, yeah, come to think of it, it was one week short of a year ago. We find ourselves watching the Cochise County Elections Department and Office of the Recorder working feverishly to tell us what we already knew - Andree DeJournett won last year's election fair and square, and the people of Tombstone are pleased with their exercise in free will.

Since the very day he LOST the general election last year, Dustin L. "Dusty" Escapule has been mudslinging and bad-mouthing the newly-elected Mayor of the City of Tombstone, Andree DeJournett, and his new administration. In the past year, Escapule has accused Andree and his administration of just about every crime imaginable, with no proof of any kind to back up his ridiculous claims.

Now, here we are in "the eleventh hour" and the Cochise County Elections Department shows the unofficial results for the recall election (brought on by Dusty and/or his cronies). Currently, here are the numbers:

Andree J. DeJournett 334
Dustin L. "Dusty" Escapule 302
Write-In Candidate 4

Unlike the General Election last November, it is my understanding that Andree needs only 1 more vote than Dusty to stay in office. That certainly seems do-able at this time. Hopefully, assuming that this recall election is certified as legit by the County Recorder's Office, our wonderful Mr. Escapule will finally realize that the "good ol' boy network" isn't good enough for the citizenry of the City of Tombstone.

I have read that the election results will be challenged. This was printed in Dusty's own little weekly hate-mongering rag, which he started up just ahead of the recall election, The Tombstone News. As much as I have such complete and utter disdain for this publication, I find myself compelled to buy it, although I believe they should pay me to read it. I do have to admit, though, I enjoy finding the spelling and other grammatical errors contained in this compendium of the thoughts of Dusty and his ilk.

This is a direct quote from the "newspaper" that claims in rather large type that it is "honest and accurate reporting," which I suppose depends on whose version of the truth you may subscribe to, especially since I doubt that Mr. Escapule's "newspaper" has many subscribers.

At any rate, here's the quote, "WARNING! There WILL be challenges made of the early ballots!" I guess this is fair warning that even if Dusty loses this recall election, which it does appear that he will, he will still whine and cry until finally the door of the Mayor's office is slammed in his face - again, for the third time!

So, if things go the way they look like they're going to go, I guess we'll see Dusty next year running for Mayor of Tombstone again. It seems to me that if after serving two terms as mayor, he would like to be the permanent Mayor of Tombstone.

If that is the case, perhaps if he gets elected next year, he can have his "good ol' boy network" change the laws of the City of Tombstone, and simply appoint himself to the position of Mayor for Life.

Please, for the love of everything holy, let it go, man.
