Wednesday, November 30, 2005 - This evening the regularly scheduled Nassau West National Security Council meeting was delayed due to the tardiness of one. That one happened to be Nassau West President Kelly K. Bartram.
The meeting was to start at 9 PM at the Capitol, however, the meeting was halted in Bartram's absence. This meeting was not the most important one ever, but this one did cover monthly budget issues. The meeting finally got started, about 30 minutes late, after Bartram explained his lack of punctuality.
According to the President, his return trip from Tucson was delayed due to heavy traffic on the approach into Nassau West International Airport. Complaints filed for the past three days regarding the same from the Port of Nassau West Airport Authority seem to suggest the dire situation faced by inbound traffic.
The first topic of the meeting was to discuss and approve spending for the first full week of December. Expenditures in the amount of $445.80 were approved for the first eight days of the month. The mortgage payment will, again, be late. And once again, the mortgage payment will be over the grace period when paid and will require an additional late fee.
The payment for Nassau West One will also be late and past its grace period, thereby requiring a late fee, as well. The Department of the Treasury reported that currently Nassau West is running two weeks late on financial commitments, and becoming later due to late fees, interest, and over limit fees.
In the past three months one of the credit accounts has not been used for any purchases, and has still managed to cost in excess of $100.00 per month to stay under limit due to late fees, interest, and over limit fees. The problems with this particular account are causing the overall credit rating to slip by about 40 points.
In the midst of all this turmoil, a new credit account was established last week that has a $500 limit, of which over $100 has already been spent. This spending was necessary spending, and because of the credit signup, a ridiculous amount of savings occurred due to the promotion offered at the time.
The only other topic of the meeting, which was not scheduled to be discussed, was the traffic problem being experienced at and near the Nassau West International Airport. Sources within the Airport Authority say that in the past three days there have been several unsafe landings coming in from Tucson on the overcrowded runway. The Department of Transportation and Airport Authority are looking into the matter.
The NSC will reconvene in mid-December to discuss the financial planning for the remainder of the month. Other expenses coming, of course, will be holiday spending. The President is expected to request approximately $500 for holiday purchases this year, including a holiday tree and exterior lighting for the Capitol. The Council, in return, is expected to approve most, if not all, of the request.
