Last Saturday night, June 24, the Nassau West National Security Council held a meeting at the Spread Eagle Saloon to deal with current and upcoming issues related to Nassau West. The meeting commenced at 9 o'clock and covered a plethora of topics, ranging from Nassau West President Kelly K. Bartram's recent conviction of one count of disorderly conduct to his future vacation.
The first topic was approving funds to pay his fine to the Bisbee Justice Court in the amount of $540. The motion was approved. Bartram was asked what his opinion was of the Tombstone system of justice, to which he replied, "I think the trial and the charges were ridiculous and inappropriate. I also think my legal representation was insufficient and expensive. I believe that I was railroaded by the City of Tombstone and their (City) attorney" (Edward Matchett).
He was also asked why he felt that he was "railroaded by the City of Tombstone and their attorney." Bartram stated, "While I was in court in Bisbee, there were several cases ahead of me ... every one of them was from Tombstone, every one of them was for disorderly conduct, and every one of them was also accepting a plea agreement. It seems to me, that Tombstone likes their little racket. I myself, however, am not a fan of extortion."
The next matter dealt with the closure of the Nassau West Tombstone Embassy and dismissal of the Tombstone Ambassador, Carey Granger, who also happened to be Bartram's co-defendant in court last week. The Council also voted unanimously to impose economic sanctions against the City of Tombstone, with a six month moratorium of "excessive" spending and unnecessary trips.
During the press conference which followed the Council meeting, Bartram took questions. One of which was, "President Bartram, do you feel that Carey Granger, former Tombstone Ambassador, is responsible for any of the charges brought upon you?" Bartram responded, "While I believe Mr. Granger shoulders some of the responsibility, I am an adult, and could have disassociated myself from him if I believed it was necessary. Incidentally, Mr. Granger's dismissal as Tombstone Ambassador is in no way related to his behavior or actions. Should we reopen the Tombstone Embassy at some point in the future, he would likely be reinstated."
Other matters of interest included distribution of all excess funds toward the Nassau West Federal Reserve System (credit cards), approval of the President's as of yet still unscheduled vacation, and the re-issuance of a liquor license for the Spread Eagle Saloon following the Great Nassau West Smoke-Out of 2006. After the Smoke-Out, the entire Capitol facility, including the saloon and kbartram.com Arena, will be non-smoking.
