AG's Office Issues Pres. Indictment
This evening, as promised, the Nassau West Attorney General's (AG's) Office issued a seven count indictment against Nassau West President Kelly K. Bartram for alleged crimes committed last week during an overnight drinking party at the Spread Eagle Saloon.
Last Wednesday night, according to the criminal complaint, Bartram and a couple of other unnamed individuals spent the evening in the Spread Eagle Saloon drinking into the morning hours. During the investigation into the matter, the Nassau West Sheriff's Department (NWSD) made several discoveries.
The NWSD noted that on the floor behind the bar, there were at least four empty bourbon whiskey bottles, including Knob Creek, Maker's Mark, Wild Turkey 101 and Jim Beam. Also on the floor were a VCR and DVD player, still connected to the sound system. In the customer area of the bar, the Sheriff's Department discovered broken glass from a light bulb.
President Bartram was unable to attend a scheduled work session in Tucson on Thursday, due to inebriation. This was the second time in five months that this has occurred. The Nassau West Department of Labor was furious, and demanded that charges were brought against Bartram.
The Department of Labor was not alone in wanting charges. They were joined by the Nassau West Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco & Firearms (BATF). The BATF got involved with this incident as a result of gunfire in the Capitol, allegedly from Bartram.
The AG's Office originally planned to charge Bartram with ten criminal violations, including one felony, but hoping for a conviction and a strong message to the President, the indictment ended up being seven counts. An arraignment hearing has been set for Saturday, July 22, 2006, at 9 PM, at the Nassau West Superior Court at the Capitol.
