"Life itself is a race, marked by a start and a finish. It is what we learn during the race, and how we apply it, that determines whether our participation has had particular value."

~ Ferry Porsche (1909-1988)

100302 2045  Why I Don't Get Sick

NOTE: This was written out of order, and probably remains out of order, and may be hard to follow!

The main reason I don't get sick is that I do not have ANY health coverage through my employer or on my own. When I go to the doctor or hospital, it is ALL out-of-pocket expense. And what an expense it is these days! The emergency room (even in Benson, AZ) is full of probable illegal immigrants with all their children with sniffles that can't go to a doctor, but can go to an emergency room ... at my expense. No, it's NOT a racist comment, it's the truth -- deal with it!

The next most important reasons I don't get sick are that I no longer smoke or drink. Since quitting those, my frequent anxiety attacks have almost completely stopped. In the ten months (so far) that I've been smoke-free and sober, I have had fewer than five notable anxiety attacks, which used to occur several times a month. What a wonderful difference it's been ... it also seems to have helped that I switched to diet soda as opposed to sugar-laden Dr Pepper, which had been my favorite.

Since quitting smoking and drinking, as I've been bored out of my skull, the amount of time spent sleeping has increased from 5-6 hours daily to 8 hours daily. This has caused me to feel much better, but I still have bags under my eyes. I haven't figured that one out yet, as I also take 100% of the daily requirement of Iron daily. Hmm. Genetics?

Now, if I could reduce my level of stress, financial and otherwise, that would be GREAT! ;)

In my bid to try to repair some of the damage I did over the years of slowly killing myself, I started taking daily vitamins. The jury is still out on whether or not it's doing any good, but one thing for certain is that it isn't doing any harm!

In total, I take eight pills every day. Here is what I take (most of these are from a multi-vitamin):

Biotin -- 30 mcg (10% DV)
Calcium -- 162 mg (16% DV)
Chromium -- 120 mcg (100% DV)
